Back from Ipoh. This year was super packed with endless activities daily. Climbed Kledang Hill on Wednesday to reach the secret workout spot at the top (weightless equipments la). Half-Life multiplayer was the bomb. We only play it when we are at Ipoh. This year Jason played Silent Hill 5 on my laptop. Disturbing game indeed.

After a not-so-painful 5+ hour journey yesterday, we have arrived at our hometown; the wonderful place of peace, fresh air, good food, awesome coffee and endless fun; Ipoh. Even on the first night we had 6 laptops running with no problem (thanks to the high speed net here) and we enjoyed killing each other in Half Life 1. Sammy the dog is still friendly.
I love this place x)

This peace and comfort drowned most of my excitement and curiosity for tomorrow's A2 results. A2 results wei! If there are any S1 ladies or gentlemen reading this, I'm really interested to know your results. Feel free to message me on FB or send me an email =D

Aggresive Promoting

Two extremes in 2 days. First off is the amazing adventure at Gunung Nuang. Yes, again. Third time going up there. This time I went up with my since-primary-buddies and believe me it was a great adventure indeed. There is so much to learn about people and ourselves, all from just climbing a mountain. Mountain.

Throughout the climb the joke dispenser was Rishi, and us laughing much actually drained some energy little by little. But it kept spirits high and we were walking and hiking far up without realising it amidst the jokes. New inside jokes were born too. Whenever anyone starts swearing or cursing, somebody will instantly go "Mulut tu wei. Jaga sikit".

Something else was driving those guys. The NEME. Non-Existant-Motivating-Entity. We joked about a girl waiting for the guys at the top of the mountain. Epic stuff. Along the way up it was the usual leg tearing hike. Upon reaching the peak (after all that Gollum climbing action), I saw a side of my friends I have never seen before. That pure feeling of joy and achievement in them really touched me. So proud wei. These guys were first timers.

The descend was really hardcore. Zaki sprained his ankle. It was getting dark and we had to run. Oh crap. The descend was a serious mindfug because the whole trail felt three times longer. You will be asking many "Did we really climb all this?"-es all the way down. Thank God the sun wasn't down yet when we were at Kem Lolo. Brave friends, they were. Enduring physical and mental strain. The descend was almost joke-free (which is extremely rare) because we were a little worried.

From Lolo onwards it got dark so we took out our torchlights and thankfully we didn't get lost in the woods. Once we got back to the big trail, we took our sweet time and walked back to the entrance, with stories along the way. At the car park everyone just crashed on the ground, awaiting a great rest.

This goes out to Syafiq, Zaki, Rishi and Ather. You guys were awesome. Thank you for this wonderful experience. For trusting me to lead the way. Woooohoooo =D

The second extreme was simply a super chilled day with the back row people from college. What stood out however was how fascinating Jon and Kiat can debate and reason very impressively and intelligently about stupid things. Fooled around in Ikea before a nice dinner at this porky restaurant. Jon was kind to treat us to ice cream after. The close was playing Monopoly Deal at Hass' place. All the racist jokes surfaced then. It felt like a really good rest and relax after a tough outdoor adventure.

Balik kampung tomorrow! Happy tahun baru cina to all cinas. For my classmates, as our results will be out on Monday, I'm wishing all of you a happy chinese new year xD Take care. Stay healthy. Bla bla bla.

On Friday the 13th, I went to climb Gunung Nuang again. There were jokes about a chainsaw wielding masked man appearing at the campsite at night. This time I didn't hit the peak because I was with the second team. The first team reached the peak though. The biggest difference the hike this time has to offer is the weather. The air is simply fresh and cool, and the ground is really dry. This made the hike a little more enjoyable. Not a single leech was seen too.

Following the second team taught me just how beastly fast Samuel (the first hike, last month) was when I was following him previously. No wonder he is called Iron Man. Another difference the second hike has to offer is the river. After descending from Kem Pacat, we took a dip in the seriously cold river next to the campsite. Woah that was the friggin' bomb man. Ice cold and pure awesome.

Fire starting was much easier this time thanks to something called charcoal. We had more food (even had coffee, milo and horlicks) but no noodles for dinner. Hiking really tears you away from your comfort zone. Your legs will burn. You will have multiple images of food and cold drinks constantly on your mind. 2 days 1 night feels like 3 days. But in the end it will all be worth it. Drinking hot coffee/milo/horlicks by the fire in the cold jungle at night is a rare but brilliant thing to do. So is cutting a large bamboo branch using a handsaw while insects try to harass you.

Can you imagine how happy I was when I had a wonderful potluck dinner after returning from Nuang? You can't. It is something you must experience yourself. Gonna upload some 'key' images while the rest will be in FB. Before that, a warning for people who are afraid of spiders (like Kiat); I will be uploading a pic of Pastor Calvin's pet which is a baby tarantula.

A good long Saturday full of learning. Started off the day with parking my car in fronta this dustbin in between two houses in a rather unknown territory (my car wasn't obstructing anything, not even the dustbin). Good breakfast at O&S which according to my cousin Jason, the boss of that place recruits only the best chefs from around. No wonder the crowd was insane for a normal many-stalled-tempat makan.

Goal Setting workshop at HQ. Again. This year sadly there wasn't any fire swallowing action (literally) but there were still heaps of new things that were taught. A strong participation of 40 young adults (and some aunties) from 9am till 4pm. Excellent. For some reason I am looking forward to the next public speaking workshop. Maybe because watching young people suffer and learn and transform while lacking sleep and putting up with pressure is... Nice. Especially if you were among the first group to endure it. Can't forget the nightmare (or in this case, a morningmare) of showering at 6am there. Colder than any river, waterfall, camp, shower, whatever water that I have felt before.

Come to think of it, most of the stuffs we learned in A Levels were factual. Fact-ish sounds better here. Except for thinking skills; where we have suppositional reasoning, assumptions, possibilities, error finding and more. Probably that's why TS classes were so interesting. You can pop your thoughts and ideas with little risk of getting everything wrong. Whereas in chem/bio/physics, black is black and white is white. Nothing more, nothing less. Can't recall the name of the insect vector for malaria? You are screwed. Can't recall the half equation for that reaction? No marks for you.

Remember your school days? At least through essays you can let your ideas roam free. And you didn't have to flip through those textbook pages for hours to be able to write 500+ words on your own. Probably fact-ish subjects are difficult because you cannot question anything. Facts are facts.

I think my essay writing skills have dropped tremendously. Even coming up with the words to type for a blog post is becoming tricky. Pandemonium dei.

Waking up in the morning has its own perks. Cuz usually during the holidays we sleep till the afternoon. Or evening. Kalau bangun lewat, you will feel like your day is painfully fast and short. Jangan lupa you may miss a nice breakfast. Maybe it is food from your local morning market. A mug of hot drink. Or the legendary bread + whatever jam you prefer combo (unless you wanna eat it on its own). Speaking of that combo, I used to have it so often during my primary and secondary school days.

Speaking of school, I would like to share a few archetypes of students in SMKBS (dunno if they still exist now. heard the school is different). They are situational dependent, for example;

1. If it is during assembly:

The bunch of boys who are somehow always talking when a teacher is giving a speech.
-These guys are the discipline teachers' favourites simply because they get to be called to the front or up the stage. Common but somehow it is usually the same people. They end up standing in front for the whole assembly. Sedihnya.

The prefect who patrols the school compound to get away from boring speeches.
-Many of us from 5 Arif fall into this category. We do it simply because we can x) Sometimes we will go to the back of the hall and kick stones. Then we end up catching late students who tried to climb over the wall from the back. Not bad.

The studying ones.
-These students are rare in my school. Only a select few can be seen reading during assemblies. Rajin wei.

2. If it is during recess:

The most common, typical 'eat and balik kelas' type.
-They will come to the canteen, line up, buy food, sit down, makan, then return to class when the bell rings. Very neutral group. Makes up about 65% of the school population.

The kaki lepak gang.
-For some reason they find joy in random places like empty classrooms, some kawasan larangan, behind blocks, and even stairs. Most of them are in places which students are not allowed to go to during recess, and they end up being familiar faces for the prefects. There are two types of these: the ones who will piss you off and the ones who won't.

The sleeper.
-They sleep in class during recess. Claim to have fever.

Yeah. More to come. I miss my school. Good to know that my generation has no parang-bringers or knife wielders.

What the heck. Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia tak boleh pakai la. All I wanna do is view the MUET 2012 timetable. They make you download this weird file type which cannot be opened by your usual programs. I end up getting the info from a random blog. Then I wanted to see how to register for it. Even for that, they give you this weird file type which cannot be opened. I end up getting the info from another random blog. You have to either get some weird bank account (have to post stuffs too. troublesome) first to pay, or you can pay online.

Let's compare. IELTS is international. Many many many test dates are available throughout the year, and you can register anytime you want. MUET is local. However there are only three sessions throughout the year, and the window for registration is only about 2 weeks. For example, if you want to take MUET in the March 2012 session, you have to register from Nov 3rd - Nov 17th 2011, otherwise you gotta wait till April to register for the July 2012 session. Only two weeks in April to register.

A moment of silence for our friends who have exam papers from today to the first week of the new year.

As usual, after Christmas, the next big thing to look forward to is chinese new year =D 15 days of ~~chor tai ti, poker, blackjack~~ meeting up with relatives, red packets and food. Ipoh food, specifically. When all your cousins crash together at the same house in a peaceful town, you know it will be fun. LAN games, card games and what not. Last year we played Half Life 1 till so late we got scolded.

Are you also starting your degree only in the month of August/September next year? If so, you are not alone. Take your ridiculously long break to travel (work for it la), learn stuffs (something cool or interesting: martial arts, musical instrument, any skills, read books) and whatever you have always wanted to do. Play Diablo 3 when it is released.

Something for young leaders: Under the 5 stage Leadership Development Program, the LCM Youth Ministry has a myriad of workshops and classes for you to attend. Most of 'em will be in chinese and/or english. Feel free to contact me if you wanna join us =D Acquire new skills, meet people, have fun.

Yesterday when we (Sunway youth members) were having breakfast, we saw a few families which their kids (primary students) bring along iPads to the table. Last time when people go out to makan together, they will not evoid people around them. I dunno la but this kind of situation is becoming increasingly common among many people (young or old). You see a circle of friends where everyone is playing with their own smartphones (Facebook mostly) instead of interacting. By doing so, they do not exchange jokes or stories to their neighbours. You come out to have a good social life and to spend time with your friends. If you are gonna sit there the whole time ignoring everyone, might as well stay at home eh? Unless it is something urgent or important la.

The shophouse next to our church is being renovated. Today the mum of the future owner was there. She is a really friendly person. She had a chat with my mum. The summary:

"Our son just graduated (20 years old) and he is interested in cars. So we bought this shophouse for him to do business (selling car parts for high end cars). We plan to buy the shophouse next to it too"

Excluding the renovations, the shophouse costs 1.5 million. And they plan to buy another. Rich people's lives eh. 20 years old only wei.

After the camp there was a 2D1N hike of Gunung Nuang. Pastor Calvin was kind to invite us and let a few of us to stay at his place before the early morning departure. This is my first 'proper' mountain climbing adventure. 4898 feet, highest in Selangor. The whole pathway to the peak is divided into a few parts. The first would be a very very long walk to Kem Lolo. It ain't very steep but the distance kills. Along the way there are small huts for you to rest. First part is also the only part where the leeches seem to be. A bit of river crossing towards the end and tadaa.

Then from Kem Lolo to Kem Pacat, the challenge begins. Steep and painful. Still can kau tim with legs alone. I was behind Samuel (a real monster) and actually slowed him down here and there. Sakit gila. Reaching Kem Pacat gives you this wooohooo feeling. Perhaps the most interesting part is from Kem Pacat to Puncak Pengasih. Here, you will need both your hands to climb up the large roots and mini cliffs regularly. You kinda become Smeagol all the way. Less tiring because you are not really walking uphill much, but more difficult due to the gradient.

Final part. There are many giant rocks which you need to carefully climb over and the mud pools there are merciless. Towards the peak, there are more huge roots and large boulders to climb up. The air becomes much colder, the plants around are different. Upon reaching the peak, all the pain in both legs vanished instantly. The deep feeling of achievement is overwhelming. Samuel was great help all the way. Dude is insanely tough.

At the peak, you enjoy cold air and the company of many swallows. Many others who reached the peak in the past had the shelter conteng-ed kaw kaw. We saw two hornbills flying lower than us. Cool sight dei. Only regret? No camera =/

The descent is mind boggling. You won't expect it to take so long to reach back to the camp site (Kem Lolo). Somehow the whole trail seems longer, though you take much less time to descend. Climbing down can be tricky and dangerous. Hell broke loose when it started raining heavily. I was in my sandals cuz my shoes were wet. Mati wei. I slipped and fell here and there, rushing down what felt like a never ending trail of mud and roots. Samuel was so fast I lost sight of him. Legs were shaking even when standing upon reaching the camp site.

When it comes to staying a night in the forest, fire and food are a real joy. Canned food is like fine gourmet cuisine. Then the art of twigs and mini log stacking to keep the fire alive becomes appreciated. It really felt like being in OB again. During the night, stuffs were told and we learned so much. Humble pie dei. Humble pie.

Random stuff: Samuel is known as Iron Man because of his physical capabilities. Funny enough, he brought along a portable light source which looked like Iron Man's arc reactor xD The guys were like "Ohh...! Now we know the source of your power!"

I daresay the Gunung Nuang escapade was life changing. Really.

Adventure Camp. 4 cold days at Cameron Highlands with close to 90 other friends. I gotta say it was really good, mostly due to the activities there. They are unlike any other. Very original and fun for all ages. I will jump to the good stuff without any chronological order:

Morning jogs. Early morning runs. 3.4km is no big deal but when your team has 11 year olds and people who are not used to jogging, reaching the finish line together in time gives this awesome feeling of satisfaction and achievement. Imagine some 8 long lines of young people running (fast walking most of the time) about in the dark morning. Cold but nice.

FOOD. Wah dei this one is a serious one leh. You are almost constantly hungry due to the many activities. And cuz food is limited, you will start craving for the good stuffs (burger, nasi goreng, pizza, bak kut teh...) suddenly from time to time. But it is also because we are always hungry that every meal time is such a blessing. So sedap and happy-fying.

War games! This is probably the highlight of the camp. We had 3 different type of war games. The first one is a defend your castle thingy and you can only fire the water balloons using your own made catapults. Yes, catapults. Need to consider the projectile motion. Getting wet in Cameron Highlands is never good.

The second war game is a rescue the hostage thingy. The rescued hostage must run back to his/her base to win. In the process, your enemies will try to kill your allies when they approach to rescue you. The weapons are plastic bags filled with food colouring. The stain is very difficult to remove dei. Everyone was so colourful.

Rambo time. The best game of the whole camp was the Terrorists vs Secret Service activity, which all takes place in a jungle. The best part? It was raining heavily. We had to fill our ammos under the rain. Too much shivering going on. Then the muddy trail made climbing (it is like a very long slope, the jungle) time consuming for many. Hujan ma. So the terrorists couldn't position themselves in time. The main battle took place far below the 'helipad', where the best terrorists put up a long, long fight. Ammo transfer from below was slow as it was really slippery. That was when we really became ramboes; just charging into thick, dense bushes and plants and trees and ferns, concealing ourselves to launch attacks. EPIC STUFF! Eventually the frontline terrorists all died because we managed to sneak behind them through all the mud, thorns, ferns and what not.

However the top part of the hill was really muddy and slippery so the game had to be called off. Otherwise many young people will be down the cliff. Had an encounter with a big ass centipede. Size of a 30cm ruler. So it was a draw. The VIP did not reach the helipad, the terrorists didn't kill all the good guys. This one Korean guy was so hardcore he made a ghillie suit (which gave him 97% camo) and killed people one by one. Oh we used food colouring bombs for this game too. Too much fun and excitement, even though it was raining heavily.

The descent was slow for many due to the extremely muddy condition. We had to slide down mud trails on our butts most of the way. The record for 'most muddy condition' was broken for many people. A lot of teamwork took place then. Terrorists and Secret Service Agents were helping each other to climb back down.

Indoor games? They were really interesting and funny. Not gonna blog much about them as they are better told than read. It is rare for tanks to turn into drum sets. Lolwhut.

Random things throughout the camp:
-During the first night, team leaders were sent into the jungle at night (one by one) to rescue a kidnapped team member.
-One person from every team is required to sleep out in a tent for the first and second night. Pity them because it is super cold and you can hear loud noises from a tv from the stalls across the main road.
-Probably the most creative war cry was by team 6, The Flies: "Eat shit, drink piss, we still survive!" lead by Carson.
-Every cup of hot drink is heavenly when it is early in the morning or late at night.
-Had a nice jam session during the last night. Exchanged many stories and jokes until 5 in the morning. Dayumn.

We had the chance to visit the market on the last day before returning home. That was when we ate fried mushrooms, sweet potatoes, corns, sweet potato balls (da bomb), strawberries and more. Let me tell you something about the teh o ais in Cameron. It is fantastic. The tea is so different and so good. Teh o ais man.

Overall the camp has definitely achieved its purpose of teaching and cultivating unity. Changes are evident among some people. Too much to say. Can't blog them all.

Hey there. The beautiful photos you are about to see are taken by Julie. The Langkawi getaway was delightful to the core. Only sad thing was that Hass couldn't make it due to an interview. Anyway;

Your final exams has ended. Therefore it is only right that you go for an island-ish holiday. Thanks to Uncle J (click here), we had an amazing 3D2N stay there. Some 'key pictures' will tell the story.

We stayed at Daddy's Guest House 2. Yes, there's a 2 now. Newly renovated chalets. Simple and comfortable. For our rental car, uncle got us a new Avanza (some plastic remained still). Driving around Langkawi is really fun cuz there are only few cars on the road, very few traffic lights, and very very few road bumps. Yay. Went island hopping on the first day:

Night one was spent buying stuffs and playing chor tai ti. We started day 2 by going to the skybridgeplatformthingy a.k.a. cable car. No mist this time. Less cold but still windy and awesome. Then it was another series of speedboat riding to some hotspots like the mangrove forest, a bat cave and (boat rides are fun wei) a mini floating village where you get to feed stingrays and archer fish.

The archer fish were so cool they deserve a new paragraph here. Besides its high jumping ability (to devour the bread from your finger), it can snipe food into the water. Pew pew. Just like what you see on TV, but much more awesome when you are the one who gets water gunned. Pew pew.

Probably the best part of the trip was during night 2, when we were stargazing and tanikudi-ing by the beach till morning. Too bad there are no pics taken.

It was a wonderful getaway indeed. I love the sea. When we got back, we went to Kiat's house for late dinner. The hospitable family tried to stuff us. There was laksa, satay, chicken rice, hokkien mee and magnum ice cream. Woohoo.

Unlimited Pizza

My neighbour has been hosting parties for the past 2 weeks. The tent is still standing. People are still coming in and going out in the usually quiet road of 7/7B. Car parking spots are still being filled by outsiders. Of course we are cool with it. As long as they don't block our cars or create a pandemonium when everyone is asleep. They sure know how to party.

Cafe Barbara at Pyramid is having a promotion. They have coffee time and pizza time. For coffee time, you get unlimited coffee. But it's rather pointless. How much coffee can you drink? On the other hand we have pizza time, where you get unlimited pizzas (yay). It is RM20 a person with Tier 1 drinks included. So today after church some of us went there and caused ourselves to abstain from pizza for a week or longer. Now that you know, you know your next makan-with-friends place to go.

1.5 years in Sunway Uni. What can I say? I won't miss that place except for maybe the hobo corner in the library. This phase was very eye opening, I must say. Add tonnes of real life drama to it. I've learnt so much from everyone and the events and came along with time. You kinda discover more of yourself in a way. You will also appreciate much of what you have. It's not the textbooks nor the papers. It's the people. The stories they tell. And our common goals. Those challenges we face. The dedicated lecturers. The 'society' within the uni.

This gap will last for many months before formal education becomes integrated daily again. Extract as much as you can from this temporary rest. There is always something to do and learn. Duh.

As I'm typing this out, Asyraf, my friend since primary school is on the plane to London. 3 years in UK for his degree. He is best remembered as our boss, the head prefect. People are flying here and there these days (or talking about flying here and there).

I've been busy in a good way for the past few weeks. During this whole period of getting things done and the seasonal bombardment from the mentors really taught me so much. So much. Sometimes we just can't get things to our desired results. Classic case of expectation vs reality involved there. It made me think about all the good ol' plans and targets which all seem to have faded. But do we give up? Hell no.

Frustration is kinda gradual. Then when you think you have finally settled down, you realise just how far you have deviated and how different things have become. People change? Not always. The social environment of people do change sometimes though. That's when things become really interesting because you will have a point of view from a totally different and unexpected spot.

By looking back and comparing, you will be able to pick out random stuffs here and there, and realise just how wrong or right you were about certain things. Then you will think. For a good while, you will think. Then maybe you will plan and expect better results based on the new situation you must adapt to. Before you know it, so much time has passed and things barely changed at all. Still the same. Cycle. Routine. Frustration.

This is a personal thought-ish post. We tend to think a lot sometimes.

When the program started I stopped taking pictures. Jonathan and Ka Young were kind enough to help with replacing the charcoals. The chicken wings were nicely roasted only at the end when all the other food got grabbed. Semua orang nak makan je. Takde yang nak jaga api. Haish.

There was an interesting hide and seek game after that. We were allowed to hide around the whole Luther Centre (except toilets and office floors). Imba. Chilling on artificial grass was awesome wei. Then there was this circle game thingy where the inside joke 'pssh' happened. Jarald, Andrew and I nearly died laughing.

Things aren't exciting lately. Pre exam season is lame and dull. There's a BBQ party at Luther Centre tomorrow though =D Which means some camera pics can be up. Finally.

Nothing much to look forward to apart from the end of exams. Then it will be a long long road of fun and learning before the final phase of studying. Working sucks wei. Just look at the adults. Feels just like yesterday that... Ok let's not start.

So Youth Sunday was over in a blink of an eye. How did we feel about it?

Those early morning till evening practices and rehearsals really paid off. Praise God everything went well. Lotsa lesson learnt, especially when it involves going for supper till late. Very bad. Asyraf gave us a treat at Bidara last night. It was quite an eventful weekend la. Family dinner was great as usual. I got to play my uncle's new guitar. Now it is back to lame A2.

Conan was a good movie. Why? Cuz it brought back classic violence. Barbaric acts. Mix it with good props, and tadaa. A good barbarian movie. Blood looked fake here and there. City of Thieves lacked spotlight. Annoying screaming at the end. Some 'flaws' here and there. Watch it with Rishi and Zaki? +10 points for the laughs.

The horrible 'morning call' I received today was neutralised by the great Sekinchan trip. Magnificent weather indeed. If only everyday will be like today. We, members of LCMS Sunway Congregation gathered at PJS9 and departed for an epic BKT breakfast.
